Spanning more than six acres, Flyway Park in Webster, Texas highlights the benefit of early collaboration and our integrated approach to design and engineering. The project’s landscape architect, 4And1 Landscape Architecture, brought our team into the process during the initial planning stages. This early engagement meant we could heavily involve ourselves in the project, including consulting and engineering in addition to final fabrication and installation.

Working alongside 4And1 Landscape Architecture, B&D Contractors, and the City of Webster, we helped translate the vision of Flyway Park into the functional recreation space it is today. Director of Development, Christian Carter, described this effort as pivotal. “This project opened up a world of design engineering that we now live in fully and specialize in. We enjoyed being brought in at the genesis of the project so we could get all of the input in then, which resulted in a deeper relationship, more accurate bidding, and a more impressive final product.”

Our deep knowledge was applied across several areas of Flyway Park: custom pavilions, decking, and a cable fencing system. The largest elements we developed were three custom pavilions, each of which features large decorative column structures with integrated lighting. The pavilions are a highlight of the park and light up at night as a bonus. Due to the scale of the pavilions, each one was constructed in three large sections (46×24 feet to be exact) at our facility to streamline on-site installation. Transporting these massive pieces required oversized permits and highway escorts. Managing the installation with cranes, our team completed the task in just eight hours.
The City of Webster would go on to request an additional structure, along with four expansive decks totaling 10,000 square feet that provide ample community space. These were clad with premium, heat-treated Thermory and Knotty Pine for durability and weather resistance, finished with aesthetic fascia plates. Completing the major elements, nearly 2,200 linear feet of guardrails with cable railing were installed along the park’s retaining walls.
A big challenge for us was to adapt the guardrail production to actual site conditions, which differed from the initial drawings. Our team identified these variances through careful assessment and adjusted fabrication to ensure an accurate fit, showcasing our ability to coordinate and solve problems proactively.
Flyway Park serves as an early example of our evolution into specialized comprehensive design engineering and fabrication, delivering quality results through collaboration and technical skill.
